Laoag Church is a chapel of wood and thatch built on this site when the Augustinian Friars founded the parish in 1508. Then replaced by this church of Italian Renaissance, the foundation laid in 1612. Looted by Chieftain Almazan who took possession of Virgin Mary's crown and proclaimed himself king in 1661. Church of Laoag was damaged by fire in 1843 and repaired by Obras Publicas under Engineer Antonio dela Camara and Fray Santiago Muniz in 1873 up to 1880. The Laoag was then oocupied by revolutionists in 1898 by American forces by 1899. The Laoag Church ownership was contested by Aglipayans in 1901. Scene 0f DIocesan Marian COngress in 1932 and 1949.

Church of San Fernando, La Union. The Chapel is made of stone and thatched erected on 1764 by Fr Francisco Romero and Santiago Holarte at Barrio San Vicente formerly known as Pindangan after which San Fernando was first called. The Church was moved to Tanque, then to Kabaroan and afterwards to its present site where it was built of stone and brick by Fr Juan Sorolla, Simon Guillermo and Pedro Fernando on 1773 to 1786. It was damaged by earthquake on 1892 and occupied by revolutionists under Col Blas Villamor on 1898 when they overwhelmed the Spanish forces that sought shelter therein. The church was then destroyed during the Liberation on February 26, 1945 and reconstructed by the residents through the efforts of Bishop Santiago Sancho on 1947 to 1949.

Buruwisan Falls and Lanzones Falls are the most known of the several falls that can be found in Siniloan, Laguna. To reach these falls, one must have an approximate of two hour trek from barangay Macatad in Famy, Laguna. You must finish a number of uphill and downhill trails in Mt. Romelo to reach the campsite where several nearby falls can be found.

To get on Buruwisan Falls from Ortigas-Rosario-Junction-Antipolo-Teresa-Tanay, you can chance upon a passing Infanta bound Bus from Raymond bus lines because it follows this route. It will pass by the National Road so this is the most convenient way of reaching Macatad in Famy, Laguna. Just ask the bus driver to drop you exactly at barangay Macatad. Roughly 100 pesos for the bus ride. In our way there, We took 2 Jeepney rides and a tricycle instead.

In Macatad, by simply standing beside the road in that area where the bus dropped you off, trek guides will approach you. The guide will bring you to registration area where you'll pay 20 pesos as entrance fee. There you have the option to either ride a horse or hike by foot. Guide fee costs 200. I didn't ask for the horse fee because I know they're offered especially for the weighty climbers.

Trekking starts from the registration area. Along the trail, if my counting was right, you'll pass by five wooden shacks. The campsite is near as soon as you hear the waterfalls and you see the small streams of water. You will descend few meters more and there you'll find yourself greeted by the green waters of Buruwisan Falls.

The boat going to Cagbalete only has two trips, 10 am and 4 pm. If you are going to stay there for one night only, its better to get the first trip to the island.

Take a bus in Grand Central Terminal going to Mauban for P60 per person. In Mauban, you may drop by the wet market to get your supply for the beach then take the trike going to the pantalan.

The boat going to Cagbalete island has two trips, take the first trip to enjoy the island better. P40 per person. Upon reaching the island, hire a guide for P20 to take you to a resort of your choice Sto Nino.

During the years when the entire City of Baguio was still grazing land for large herds of cattle, Pinsao, location of the Tam-awan Village was one vast pastureland. A spring beside Tam-awan is the source of a body of water that once served as a watering hole for cattle. Thus, the place became associated with chanum, which in Ibaloi, means water. Adopting the name to symbolize its vision, Chanum Foundation, Inc. views its role to be as nurturing and life-giving as the spring in Tam-awan Village.

The Chanum Foundation, Inc., founded in 1998, began to reconstruct Ifugao houses in Baguio with the view of making a model village accessible to people who have not had the chance to travel to the Cordillera interior. Building on the land near an abundant spring, the foundation started out with three knocked down huts transported from Banga-an, Ifugao. The village now has seven Ifugao huts and two Kalinga houses. Using the original materials and adding only new cogon roofs, traditional artisans reconstructed the houses and laid them out resembling the design of a traditional Cordillera Village.

In keeping with the spirit in which the village was originally conceived, Tam-awan Village has become a venue for cultural activities, art exhibits and workshops envisioned to foster a deeper understanding, respect and pride in the cultural heritage of the Cordillera people.

From the Village's huts and natural surroundings, Tam-awan's resident artists find inspiration for their craft.The Tam-awan Village Artists all share a passion for indigenous art and they imbue local elements and techniques in their works.

Village called Tam-awan is a museum gallery that promotes awareness, appreciation and respect for the cultural heritage and the arts in the Philippines particularly in the Cordilleras. Trekking for around 20 minutes to reach the view deck and found ourselves cold and the area almost covered with cool and breezy fog.

Daranak Falls nestles quietly at the foot of the Tanay Mountains, preserved with the natural vegetation, complemented with beautiful waterfalls, ponds, and rivers cascading through elaborate tropical trees and plants. This 14 meter high falls is truly a refreshing site. It is located at Tandang Kutyo in the town of Tanay.

Daranak's sign on the main highway on the road was a bit narrow and there was a stretch of unpaved road. Finally when you reached the end of the road which was Daranak's parking lot for P20 per day. There were many picnickers swimming in the area of Daranak falls. Some were grilling their barbecues and fresh fishes in shaded areas near the river. The sight of Daranak falls was marvelous, thanks perhaps to the on and off rains.The water drop from the main falls was around 25-30 meters high. There is a smaller falls somewhere near the viewing deck, after descending from the stairs. The wind was strong so you can feel the gust of water droplets on your face. Which is bad for a lens change in the area. Further down the slope of boulders and rocky terrain leading to the edge of the water stream and catch basin.

Near Daranak is another falls, Batlag, from where the water gushing down Daranak falls is coming from. It is in a private property so another P20 per person is collected. To get there you will need to go back to the area where a small store and comfort/dressing room are located, then cross a small, make-shift wooden bridge across the river. The trail going up Batlag is cemented. You can reach the falls area after 15-20 minutes of walking. Batlag has a lot of small catch basins with mini-waterfalls.. The river is shallow and the area is canopied by tall trees with some roots wrapped around the boulders and crawling above the soil. The place is not well maintained, though, as the picnic huts were already dilapidated, despite which, still the general area is a very refreshing sight to marvel..

I have not gone to the zoo for awhile now. My last visit was probably when I was three or five years old. I barely remember any thing right now. I just had photos of them. One photo is that I am feeding the giraffes. I can't remember those but it's lovely and nostalgic at the same time.

Magalawa Island is located in Palauig, Zambales. Magalawa is a perfect location to just lounge around and commune with nature.

Magalawa is an island barangay in the municipality of Palauig, Province of Zambales, Philippines. The island covers an area of 56 hectares. Surrounding the island is the vast China Sea and in the north is the San Salvador Island of Masinloc and in the east is Sitio Luan, Lipay. Magalawa island is known for its beautiful beaches.

Magalawa Island is Palauig's uncommercialized island. However, locals are no longer surprised when we inquired about transport going to it. Magalawa has cream-white sands with a dust of leaves here and there and its waters is ideal for swimming. If you get lucky you can see a school of fish and lots of red, blue, green and pink star fishes. The island is about 15 to 30 minutes away from Masinloc Municipality by local motorized boat. It has no facilities, hence, it is advisable to bring packed meals and bottles of water for day swimmers and lots of provisions for over night swimmers. So far, the island is open to the public at no cover charge. Not far from Magalawa, about 15 minute boat ride, is the island of San Salvador, which is more popular. This island is bigger and inhabited. Known to locals as Pulo, it boasts of a marine life sanctuary.

How to get to Magalawa Island thru Barangay Pangolingan, Palauig, Zambales. From Manila, take a Sta Cruz, Zambales bound bus by Victory Liner. Drop off point is Pangolingan, Palauig cor Radio Veritas Road. Take a tricycle going to Oslet Armada Fishdealer Compound in Brgy Luan. Tricycle fare is P25 per head. From Oslet Armada Fishdealer Compound, take a mini boat going to Magalawa Island. Boat fare is P50 per head. Parking Fee/Charges is P100 per vehicle. Then a boat ride will take 10 minutes.

How to get to Magalawa Island via Masinloc Fish Port. From Manila, take a Sta Cruz, Zambales bound bus by Victory Liner. Drop off point is Masinloc Public Market. Masinloc Fish Port is at the back of the Public Market. Take a boat going to Magalawa Island. Boat ride rates is P100 per head or negotiate with local boaters. Boat ride travel time will take 40 minutes.

Another beautiful scenery in Cavite is the Balite falls The falls is located in Barangay Halang which is roughly 3 km north of Amadeo. If you are travelling using private vehicle, you can take the South Luzon Tollway and exit at Exit 33 or Carmona and head southwest towards Carmona. Near Carmona, take the Carmona Bypass road so you do not have to go through Carmona town proper. This road actually leads all the way to Trece Martires and crosses Aguinaldo Highway, the more popular road to Tagaytay City coming from Zapote. About 7.7 km on this road from the Exit 33, there will be a junction to Silang. Take this road and head for Silang. At Silang, and at every major junction in Silang, you may need to ask directions from locals which way to Barrio Luksuhin. Follow the major streets of Silang with a southwest general direction until you hit the wide nicely paved roads of Aguinaldo Highway. The road to Barrio Luksuhin actually starts from a crossing point along Aguinaldo Highway on the section that now bypasses Silang. Follow this road to Luksuhin, through Luksuhin, Calubcob, Lit-lit and up to the crossing in Banay-Banay. At Banay-Banay, turn right northwestward while carefully taking note of your odometer reading at the intersection. When you are in Banay-Banay intersection, go 1.3 km northwestward then you will see a small dirt road on the left. Turn left on this dirt road and follow this road for about 1 km to the end. On both sides of this dirt road would be coffee farm or plantation. The end of the road will be a sudden descent to a clearing which serves as the parking lot for visitors to the falls. The Balite Falls would just be a few meters south of the clearing behind the trees.

Lie in this place is a refreshing beach and sandplace. I really envy people who resides here as they are closer to nature's gift. How to go here, I actually forgot. I am sleeping all the way, yeah know!

Going to Caramoan will take a long ride or a plane trip to Naga City, a shuttle to the town of Sabang, and almost two hours boat ride to the final stop.

Because Caramoan is not commercialized travel spot, there is no single resort in the area. There are, however, a couple of pension houses and a few homestays in the town center or the Sentro. Prices of homestays start at P150 pesos per head per night, depending on the facilities and haggling skills.

The first highlight of the trip would be the most accessible beach from the Sentro, Gota Beach, where you get to experience the strongest and most consistent waves in your entire beach life. The shores were in fact facing the Pacific Ocean and had amazing rock formations from both sides, with a few caves in certain areas. According to some..

Another spot worth visiting is the white patch of land called the Lajos or Lahos Island. From afar, the island looks like a flat white sheet, with two almost identical rocks on both sides. The Hunongan Cove is also a great beach if you want privacy among companions. Its sands are ideal for camping and frisbee, but whose waters are unfortunately surrounded by schools of jellyfish.

There is the Gotang Malaki, a bigger cove beside Gota beach, where some would decide to spend the night. A huge orange moon may appear brightly between two giant rock formations during fullmoon, and dozens of seagulls in the morning, speeding their way from the rocks to the clear blue waters of the beach.

Sabitan Laiya is one of the most popular spots in Caramoan because of the long stretch of white sand and large rock formations. About an hour away from Sabitan Laiya is Tayak Island, an island with an eerie lagoon in the middle.

Our last stop would be Matukad Island, with sharp and layered rock formations similar to those in Lajos. Whether as a tourist or a backpacker, new destinations especially with great company and lesser crowds can really give a sense of energy and utmost fulfillment.

In Pinoy's language, Puka means a small shell with a hole. Also known as Yapak Beach, this part of the Philippines is popularly known as Puka Beach due to its abundance of puka shells bleached white under the growling sun.

That's why when you buy a puka shell necklace, it'll surely has lots of holes in them. A story goes like this: The reason I am telling you this is because when I was up at Puka Beach on Boracay a few weeks ago, I heard an American girl ask her boyfriend “What does a wild puka look like?”

The beach is a far cry from all of the beaches in the island. It is where the things you experienced exceeds your expectations upon visiting a tropical island: clear blue water, uninhabited island, and fine white sand. This part of the beach is where the locals converge to collect puka shells from which the beach derived its name.

With a malevolent land area of 800 meters, this beautiful beach ranks as the 2nd longest beach along its northern tip. The only sound you will be hearing is the slow and gentle waves creeping the white fine and dandy sands. These sands are more silica, more grainy, and whiter.

To those who will be visiting this majestic place for the first time, Puka Beach Boracay is awailable via various modes of transportation. By land, a trike or a tricycle is good enough to reach this paradise. For the groups of thrill seekers, the beach can likewise be reached by renting an ATV, motorbike, or bicycle. You can also rent a banca or paraw to better appreciate the beauty of the island on its maximum potential.

Just be wary as during the off season, it is always recommended that tourists should make arrangements with tricycle drivers and/or boat transporters to occasionally come for them since there are limited transportation modes that will take them back to the main island. From Boracay itself, the trip to Puka Beach will take about 30 minutes. Enjoy this! You should!

Matukad Island is one of the small islands found in Caramoan Camarines Sur. This island is pristine or unspoiled by commercialism, I call this my haven or paradise. Matukad Island has powder like fine white sands, school of fishes swimming are abundant in the area. Matukad Island also have a hidden lake inside the rock formations in the island.

Matukad island, an island with two shores and has 3 small beaches then we went to Lahus Island and Island also with two shores then we went to Hanungan Island where the crew of Survivor French edition stayed. In front of Hanungan Island is another Island about 400 meters far.

We found a small coral reef and we were amazed because we did not expect that there's a reef in Matukad Island. We also found another small beaches on the side of the island. We also climb on the walls of the Island using every rock as the holds and steps. We were shocked for what we saw, A secret lagoon in the island. Before you reach the lagoon you have to climb the rock formation and go down on the other side.

I have a friend who stays at this awesome place. You'll actually forget your city life full of blinking lights, cool buildings, shopping malls and traffic signs. Unlike your urban way, life here is very much different. Instead of the usual lamp posts at the metro, here in Panlaitan, trees are everywhere. Plus, we have the ocean as our neighbor.

Yeah, it's actually different than your normal urban life. But 'this' difference is worth the stay for a couple of days for you to enjoy the sand and the sun.

After 30 minutes of boat ride we arrived at our first destination for the Coron Island Loop. Our first stop Siete Pecados Marine Park. The waves and winds are strong and our boatmen advise us to abandon it if it will still remain that way but we want to see the beauty underneath so we still proceed.

Not much picture here because of the strong winds and wave. This is one the best marine park I have ever been, rich in corals and lots of different species of fish and lots of sea urchin too. The beauty underneath makes Siete Pecados one of Coron's best sites for snorkeling.

I have been to Baguio and Benguet many times. But I really like to visit and have some vacation on Sagada. Sagada is a six hours ride from Baguio. And there are lots of nice place to visit in there especially when the weather is hot.

Aside on their well known cave, Sagada is known for Hanging Coffins. One of them is the Sugong Hanging Coffins. But you cannot go near those coffins because of high stones and cliffs you will encounter. Up to now, people from Sagada still hang their coffins on this hills and cliffs.

Mount Samat, Dambana ng Kagitingan, is located in Pilar, Bataan. It is a national monument dedicated to the victims of the Battle of Bataan. The centerpiece feature of this shrine is a 92 meter high white cross where people can actually climb into and go up, via elevator, to the viewing deck within the cross’ arms. And since the shrine is on top of Mount Samat, which is about 550 meters high, the view from the cross is quite impressive and the cross is also seen from miles around.

There are also other structures surrounding the cross, including a helipad and the colonnade, which houses the museum. And basing from the zigzag road connecting the colonnade and the cross, there is some considerable climbing to do!

Mount Pinatubo is an active stratovolcano located on the island of Luzon, at the intersection of the borders of the Philippine provinces of Zambales, Tarlac, and Pampanga. It is located in the Cabusilan Mountain range separating the west coast of Luzon from the central plains, and is 42 km west of the dormant and more prominent Mount Arayat, occasionally mistaken for Pinatubo. Ancestral Pinatubo was a stratovolcano made of andesite and dacite. Before 1991, the mountain was inconspicuous and heavily eroded. It was covered in dense forest which supported a population of several thousand indigenous people, the Aeta, who had fled to the mountains from the lowlands during the protracted Spanish conquest of the Philippines which first commenced in 1565.

The volcano's ultra-Plinian eruption in June 1991 produced the second largest terrestrial eruption of the 20th century and the largest eruption in living memory. The colossal 1991 eruption had a Volcanic Explosivity Index of 6, and came some 450–500 years after the volcano's last known eruptive activity , and some 1000 years after previous VEI 6 eruptive activity. Successful predictions of the onset of the climactic eruption led to the evacuation of tens of thousands of people from the surrounding areas, saving many lives, but surrounding areas were severely damaged by pyroclastic flows, ash deposits, and later by lahars caused by rainwater remobilizing earlier volcanic deposits: thousands of houses and other buildings were destroyed.

The word 'pinatubo' means 'to have made grow' in Tagalog and Sambal, which may suggest a knowledge of its previous eruption in about AD 1500, although there is no oral tradition among local people of earlier large eruptions. Pinatubo might instead mean a fertile place where crops can be made to grow. An indigenous group of people, the Aetas also spelled as Ayta, had lived on the slopes of the volcano and in surrounding areas for several centuries, having fled the lowlands to escape persecution by the Spanish. They were a hunter-gatherer people who were extremely successful in surviving in the dense jungles of the area. These people also grew some staple crops such as wheat, barley and rice.

The Chocolate Hills are not the only example of conical karst hills on earth. Slovenia and Croatia both have conical karst hills, except that the Chocolate Hills are simpler examples because the Chocolate Hills have no caves. The Bungle Bungles in the Purnululu National Park in Western Australia feature similar sedimentary formations.

The Chocolate Hills is a rolling terrain of haycock hills – mounds of general shape which are conical and almost symmetrical. Estimated to be at least 1,268 individual mounds to about 1,776, these cone-shaped or dome-shaped hills are actually made of grass-covered limestone. The domes vary in sizes from 30 to 50 metres high with the largest being 120 metres in height. They are scattered throughout the towns of Carmen, Batuan and Sagbayan in Bohol. Bohol's "main attraction", these unique mound-shaped hills are scattered by the hundreds on the island's central plain, concentrated near the town of Carmen.

During the dry season, the precipitation is inadequate such that the grass-covered hills dry up and turn chocolate brown. This transforms the area into seemingly endless rows of "chocolate kisses". The branded confection is the inspiration behind the name, Chocolate Hills.

The Department of Tourism in Central Luzon recently cited the Monasterio de Tarlac as "the most revered pilgrimage site" in the region "on account of its spiritual prominence as the shrine of the sacred relic of the true cross upon which Jesus Christ was crucified and died."

The relic is contained in a silver reliquary housed in an ornately decorated glass case on one of the altars of the Church of the Risen Christ in the sprawling monastery where one also finds a 30-foot statue of the Risen Christ.

Atop the imposing altar is the Latin inscription Ave, Crux, Spes, Unica, which means "Hail, the Holy Cross, Our Only Hope."

"We expect it to become the center of spirituality this Holy Week," said DOT regional director Ronnie Tiotuico.

He said the relic is the only one of its kind in the entire Asia and is now under the ministerial care of the Servants of the Risen Christ, a monastic congregation led by its prior, Frater Ronal Thomas Cortez.

The congregation has only 30 contemplative monks or religious brothers nationwide. They are also called "frater" to the Catholic community.

Tiotuico said Msgr. Volker Bauer of Germany turned over the sacred relic to Prior Cortez during the 2005 World Youth Day held in Essen, Germany.

In Essen, he said Bauer first informed Cortez about plans to turn over the relic to the Philippines. Last Jan. 29, Bauer flew into the country with the relic, which was first brought to a church at the Clark Freeport before being transferred to its final destination at the Monasterio de Tarlac.

At the monastery, Papal Nuncio Rev. Fr. Fernando Filoni and Tarlac Bishop Florentino Cinense led the "dedication" ceremonies.

Since then, Tiotuico said the number of pilgrims to the site has swelled, prompting the monks to hold 10 a.m. Masses on Saturdays and Sundays.

"After the Mass, the faithful are allowed to have a closer look at the cross fragment in the reliquary to pay homage and be blessed spiritually," he said.

Starting Sept. 14 this year when the entire Christendom commemorates the anniversary of the dedication of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, Tiotuico said the silver case containing the relic would be opened for public veneration.

In 1963, the Catholic Church declared Sept. 14 of every year as the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross.

The DOT recalled that the veneration of the true cross of Jesus Christ started in the fourth century.

"According to Christian tradition, when Emperor Constantine granted religious freedom to Christians in the Roman Empire in 313 A.D., his mother, Queen Helena, later in 326 A.D., made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land to locate those places sacred to Christians and found the authentic cross of Jesus," the DOT said in a statement promoting pilgrimages to the Tarlac monastery.

"Queen Helena had churches built in many of these sacred sites, such as the Tomb of the Holy Sepulchre, Calvary, the exact place where Jesus was born. She also found the true cross buried under a pagan temple as well the nails used to crucify Jesus, and the title that was affixed to the cross," it added.

Queen Helena was said to have verified the true cross among the three that were unearthed under the temple, as it produced miracles, including the return to life of a dead girl when her body was placed on a part of the cross.

"She left part of the cross in Jerusalem, gave some parts to her son in Constantinople, and took other parts back to Rome where the Church of the Holy Cross of Jerusalem was built," the DOT said.

"Pieces of the cross were venerated as holy relics, and fragments were given as gifts to many churches in Europe," it added.

Tarlac Gov. Jose Yap developed the 278-hectare Tarlac Ecotourism Park where the Monasterio de Tarlac is located.

According to locals, Anawangin was formed after Mt. Pinatubo's eruption in 1991. They say the pine forest was not present before and that the shore was much farther up than it is now. Anawangin comes from the Ilocano word "nuang" meaning carabao and Anawangin literally means "full of carabaos". Wild carabaos are once said to have been found in abundance in the area.

The crystal-clear waters of Anawangin becomes very evident once your boat enters the cove. The sea would turn from very dark blue to light greenish blue once you come near the shore. The water is so clear that on a moonlit night, you can still see your feet while swimming in the sea. There are times in a year when medium sized waves would form and add more fun to swimming in the water.
